Women who were injured as a result of the use of the surgically implanted transvaginal mesh have shown a constellation of ailments. Included in the array, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, are organ perforation and mesh erosion through the vagina. There are reports of infection and bleeding as well as urinary and neuro-muscular problems. All of this is very painful, and the road to relief often leads to surgery.

The International Urogynecology Journal released in July a report that it will publish in print later concerning the efficacy of surgery in pain relief. The report dealt with a post-operative study of hundreds of women who “underwent excision or revision of vaginal mesh from January 2000 to August 2012.”

Surgery lessened the pain for most of the women, but unfortunately a quarter of the transvaginal mesh victims experienced either no change in pain or a worsening of it. For one out of four women, not even surgery can help. For the rest, going back under the knife, which was no picnic, was the solution.

Considering what these women go through can be instructive in considering the tens of thousands of women who have filed lawsuits seeking to recover medical expenses, missed time off of work, pain and suffering and other losses because they were implanted with the transvaginal mesh.

The synthetic mesh was designed to head off the bulging of organs into the vagina, which is known as pelvic organ prolapse. It is also used to treat stress urinary incontinence or the unintended leakage of urine. These are the FDA’s explanations.

For too many women, some of whom have turned to the transvaginal mesh attorneys at Reich & Binstock for help, the remedy created a transvaginal “mess.”

Reich & Binstock can provide the sort of skilled representation that women who have been injured by the transvaginal mesh deserve. The consultation is free. It costs nothing to have an experienced Reich & Binstock attorney determine whether there is an entitlement to compensation, but it can be very costly, in a sense, to wait too long to pursue it.

Transvaginal mesh lawsuits have been filed against seven manufacturers. More than 43,000 cases have been centralized before a multidistrict litigation court in West Virginia where one judge oversees pretrial management. Reich & Binstock operates in all 50 states as skilled product liability lawyers.
